Professionalization in educational design represents an essential building block for an academic career. The "Teaching Certificate" enables all teachers at the University of Graz to prove a sound and research-based didactic training.
The programme focuses on

the further development of one's teaching competence
-
the accompanied reflection of one's teaching activities
-
the creation of a professional teaching portfolio

Participation in the certificate programme is free of charge for teachers and staff of the University of Graz.

The registration process takes several steps:
1.) Register for the course on the registration page of the Competence Center for University Teaching.
2.) Send a letter of motivation with evidence of meeting the participation requirements to zertifikat.lehre(at)uni-graz.at.
3.) After checking the participation requirements, you will be informed about the successful registration for the programme.
Who will be accepted, if there are more registrations than available spots?
There are two criteria that play a role in the allocation of fixed places:
- Time of registration: Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Fulfilment of participation requirements: Prospective participants who fulfil the participation requirements will be given priority if necessary.
Is attendance compulsory at the on-site workshops?
Attendance is compulsory for the compulsory modules "Teaching Competence I, II & III" and "Digital Teaching". If you are unable to attend an appointment, please contact the respective workshop trainer to clarify whether you can compensate for the absence.
Attendance is not compulsory at the kick-off event at the beginning of each course.
What is the expected workload?
The real-time effort in the certificate module is estimated at approximately 195 hours. The major part is spent on asynchronous learning phases, independent work on the teaching portfolio and the preparation and implementation of the teaching project. Only about 22 hours are allotted to mandatory face-to-face workshops.
How long does it take to participate in the certificate module?
The programme starts every summer semester. The regular participation is designed for 3 semesters, with the ceremonial awarding of the certificates always taking place on the "Teaching Day" in November. So if, for example, you start the Certificate in Teaching in March 2024 and attend all the appointments as planned, you would complete the programme on the Teaching Day in November 2025.
Of course, it may happen that you cannot complete the certificate module in the regular time for professional or private reasons. In this case, you can pause participation in the programme at any time and rejoin at a later point in time.
